I am here because of the strength and sacrifices of my and your ancestors. They endured unimaginable hardships so that I/we could stand here today, speaking our truth and striving to make the world a better place.

  • Q: Can I get insurance after completing a course at Nalu Massage?
    A: Yes, you can. Upon completing your course at Nalu Massage, you are eligible for insurance coverage. Nalu Massage training is an approved training provider with the International Institution of Complementary Therapy (IICT), which is recognized in 35 countries. This recognition ensures that our graduates can obtain insurance to practice professionally, giving you peace of mind and credibility in your massage therapy career. At Nalu Massage, we not only focus on training from the heart but also ensure that our students are well-prepared to transition into their professional lives with full support and recognition from reputable institutions.
  • Q: If I sign up for a training course at Nalu Massage but need to cancel, can I get a refund?
    A: At Nalu Massage, we understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. If you need to cancel your enrollment in one of our training courses, you may be eligible for a refund. Our refund policy allows cancellations made at least 14 days prior to the course start date to receive a full refund minus a small administrative fee. Cancellations made within 14 days of the course start date may not be eligible for a refund, but we do offer the option to transfer your enrollment to a future course date. To initiate a refund or transfer, please contact our support team directly. We aim to provide flexible solutions and support our students in their journey towards becoming compassionate and skilled massage therapists.
  • Q: Can I start my own massage therapy business after completing the 2.5 days of training at Nalu Massage?
    A: Yes, you can start your own massage therapy business after completing the 2.5 days of training at Nalu Massage. Our training program is designed to equip you with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary for a successful practice. Upon completion, you will be eligible to become a member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). This membership allows you to obtain insurance tailored to your business needs, ensuring that you can start your entrepreneurial journey with confidence and professionalism. At Nalu Massage, we train from the heart to ensure you’re well-prepared to make a positive impact in the world of massage therapy.
  • Q: Is Lomi Lomi done in the nude at Nalu Massage?
    A: At Nalu Massage, the draping for Lomi Lomi is indeed different compared to many other massage techniques, to allow for free-flowing access to the body. However, please rest assured that all private parts are securely covered at all times. At no stage will your privacy or comfort be compromised. We maintain the highest level of respect for our clients as well as ourselves, ensuring a professional and honoring environment. Lomi Lomi is a significant and respected part of our lineage, and we are dedicated to carrying on this tradition with integrity.

Our mission is to train individuals to become skilled, heart-centered massage therapists who not only understand the art of touch but also embody the spirit of Aloha in everything they do.

Aloha means love, peace, compassion, and mutual respect and that’s exactly what we encourage in our students and practitioners. Here, you’ll learn to nurture both body and soul, creating a safe and calming space for every person who walks through your door.

 

Whether you’re taking your first steps toward a new career or deepening your practice, you’ll find a community that cares, supports, and grows together.  We are more than just a training center. We are a family, committed to empowering you with the skills and mindset needed to offer healing touch with empathy and integrity.

Meet Your Trainer

Debbie's journey of healing and transformation began at an early age. While others pursued sports and dance, she immersed herself in understanding the healing properties of plants and the land, guided by the love and wisdom of her father, nana, sister, and two brothers.

Her fascination with massage therapy began in 1988. She was captivated by its remarkable ability to alleviate stress and pain, enhance muscle relaxation, and improve circulation and lymphatic flow - a cornerstone of holistic health.

In 1991, Debbie decided to transition from a career in hospitality to training adults, helping them build confidence and skills for better employment opportunities. This experience was pivotal, igniting her passion for teaching and empowering others.

Although her time in the corporate sector was extensive, it never quite felt like home. Her true calling emerged when she pursued a Dual Master Qualification in Aromatherapy and Natural Therapy, which eventually led her to Nalu Massage Training. Under the mentorship of Jen Barnett, the founder of Nalu, she discovered the profound practice of Lomi Lomi. The spirit of Aloha reinvigorated Debbie's path. Now, as the custodian of Nalu Massage Training, Debbie is dedicated to sharing her transformative knowledge and skills with others. Her journey continues, and she is honoured to guide others on their own paths to healing and growth through living life full of Aloha.

 I have had the honor to complete training in the hands of the amazing Debbie 3 times now, completing Hot Lava Shell Massage, Lava Mumma Massage and the Nalu Breathwork, I am also about to do another training with Deb which I truly cannot wait for and, be apart of this amazing tribe. 

 

From the moment I meet Debbie I knew I would walk away with something truly incredible and unique to offer to others in my community. Deb made the experience spectacular, I felt at home, while receiving the most professional and inspiring training I have ever experienced. As a massage therapist of 19 years I have done many training courses and I have never felt more confident, comfortable and motivated as I have with Nalu Academy. The way the training is structured is very different from what I have experienced in the past and it is absolutely amazing. You feel more connected and relaxed with your surroundings and work you are doing. You do not feel as though you are being assessed, You just feel whole.

I took Lomi Lomi (March 2023), Lava Shell (June 2023) and Lava Mumma training (Aug 23) with Nalu Massage – where Deb was my teacher. 

 

Deb demonstrated excellent knowledge on the topics and was a calm, heart centred teacher with so much patience and understanding for all learning styles. Deb uses real world examples of situations and prepared us for much of what we were likely to come across with our clients. 

 

Deb’s support is continuous as she is always 100% there for ex-students through a Facebook community of practice. When any of us (ex-students) have questions, or need support with where to purchase equipment, quality of equipment, insurance, special needs of clients with particular conditions and how to emotionally regulate after a difficult situation – Deb answers every time. 

 

For me, Deb’s support is above and beyond. I’ve never had this level of ongoing support from any course before. Deb teaches from the heart and she genuinely cares about our ongoing wellbeing and success in the Lomi Lomi massage business. 

 

Last year, when I wanted to begin to offer Lomi Lomi, I was just starting out and needed some additional help to build confidence. Deb arranged for a 1:1 Lomi Lomi practice session for me to address any and all concerns I had about getting the moves right and transitions from move to move. I now run a successful small business offering Lomi Lomi and Reiki, and thanks to the community of practice I feel I have an excellent safety net for ongoing support and guidance. 

 

I am more than happy to further discuss my learning experience with Deb if required.
